Significant Information
· Management and training experience: At Emory University April-Sept. 2000: Dr. Al Khaldi was selected to manage the DNA Microarray core facility at Yerkes Primate Research Center. He was involved in building the infrastructure of the facility, strategic planning, and DNA chip production. The goal was building a DNA Microarray gene chip for human, primate, rat, mice, and bovine cells. Dr. Al Khaldi gained much valuable experience including decision-making, establishing leadership skills, and effective communication.
· Grant review experience: Dr. Al Khaldi was chosen to review the internal FDA grant entitled “Practical Application of Laboratory Based Biosensor Detection Technology to Detect and Analyze Microbiological Agents, Food Allergens, Toxins, and Other Bioactive Compounds in Foods, Food Additives, and Dietary Supplements”
· Patent Pending 2004: Whole-bacterial cell "Fingerprinting" by Focal Plane Array Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy. McGill University, Health Canada, and USA –FDA.
· Magdi M. Mossoba and Sufian Al-Khaldi (FDA). 2006. Novel Infrared (IR)-Transparent Hydrophilic Membrane that can be used for Filtration, Printing of Microarrays, and Cultivation of Bacteria and Other Microorganisms for Reagent-free IR Spectroscopic Identification of Intact Microcolonies. U.S. Patent Application No. 11/343,561 filed 30 Jan 2006, entitled “Hydrophilic IR transparent membrane, spectroscopic sample holder comprising same and methods of using same” (HHS Reference No. E-174-2005/0-US-01)
· Participating in division director search committee 2005. Dr. Al Khaldi was selected by the leadership of OPDF/ FDA to represent the division of Microbiological Studies in the committee of choosing a new director.
· Project Officer 2006: Development of SPR multilayered structure and coupling optics for simultaneous real time surface Plasmon resonance detection of multiple bacterial and/or viral pathogens in foods.
